Lorenzo Muti 

Conductor and Artistic Director since 1988

 

Born in Spoleto, Italy, Lorenzo Muti turned a childhood passion into a lifelong love that has taken him around the world.

Lorenzo studied at some of the world’s finest institutions, including the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia and New York’s Juilliard School. He made his conducting debut in his hometown at the Spoleto Music Festival. Lorenzo has since enjoyed acclaim across Europe and the U.S. with the London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra dell'Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Netherlands Opera, the Washington Opera and others. As conductor and artistic director of the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle since 1988, Lorenzo Muti has been a dynamic leader in bringing great orchestral music to the Triangle. 

 Maestro Muti's wife Jill, Head of School at Ashley Hall, and fine flautist, and his son Niccolo, violinist, play regularly in the orchestra creating a unique family experience appreciated by every supporter of theorchestra.
