Conductor and Artistic Director
Born in Spoleto, Italy, Lorenzo Muti turned a childhood passion into a lifelong love that has taken him around the world. Lorenzo studied at some of the world’s finest institutions, including the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia and New York’s Juilliard School. Making his conducting debut in his hometown at the Spoleto Festival, he has since enjoyed acclaim across Europe and the U.S. with the London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra dell'Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Netherlands Opera, the Washington Opera and many others. As Conductor and Artistic Director of The COT since 1988, Lorenzo Muti has been a dynamic leader in bringing great orchestral music to the Triangle. Together with his wife Jill, Maestro Muti also runs Spoleto Study Abroad, a non-profit educational organization that brings high school students and educators to Italy to focus on cultural and artistic enrichment.
