About This Program

You hear them at the concert, but don't always see them. Some come to us from antiquity, and others are shaped funny. All need the human breath to help them come to life. They are the wind instruments of the orchestra, and when you put them together you get a rich and textured sound like no other!

Join the COT's wind section for a program featuring works by Gounod, Strauss, and  Francaix. All masters of larger orchestral forces, these three composers were very aware of the winds in their own right. Listen for the lyrical melodies of Gounod, the rich sonorities of Strauss, and the wit and charm so common of Jean Francaix.
