About This Program
We are BIG fans of Wolfgang here at the COT. But who isn’t? The strings and winds take the stage independently of one another for this unique program. The COT strings start things off by showcasing the lighter and darker sides to this compositional genius, while the COT winds tackle his epic Gran Partita. Have you ever heard of a basset horn? This is your chance to find out more!
About Horst and Ruth Mary Meyer
Few couples have ever more genuinely embodied a passionate love of the arts, an abiding love for nature and an unstinting belief in equality and justice than did Horst and Ruth Mary Meyer. The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle was not only graced by their glowing faces at every concert, but we were annually supported with a generous contribution to help underwrite a concert. And when asked about a musical preference for underwriting, Horst invariably replied, "you know Mr. Bach is always nice." Today includes another favorite, "Mr. Mozart."
In their estate planning, their passions all received support and thankfully, The COT was generously endowed. When COT President David Lindquist asked Horst what he imagined and how we might remember them, his answer was typically modest. "Nothing is necessary as my joy is in helping the Muti family and musicians make wonderful music for as long as possible; I leave it up to you." And so once a year, we continue The Horst and Ruth Mary Meyer Memorial Concert courtesy of their generous endowment, and welcome the support of family and other admirers whom we have acknowledged throughout this program.
