About This Program
Before TV’s and screens became the mainstay, radio was king! Families and communities gathered together to listen to their favorite shows broadcast nationwide. Opera FM pays homage to this great time in musical history, when millions were introduced to opera over the airwaves.
Tune in live with The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle’s radio host Ray Dooley, who will guide you through an evening of famous arias, duos and trios. And don’t forget overtures! Listen to Don Giovanni seduce his latest conquest, Dr. Robert Oppenheimer struggle with the consequences of having created the world’s first weapon of mass destruction, and let Tristan and Isolde’s love theme envelope you in music’s most intense embrace.
The stars of the night are three of the most promising young voices on the operatic circuit today: soprano Yelena Dyacheck, tenor Carlos Enrique Santelli, and baritone Craig Verm. All have featured at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, with two of them taking home the grand prize.
